Rain or Shine

Last week we had another garage sale. Similar to our last sale we asked for donations to help us. Actually, nearly everything was donated to us. (We haven’t been buying things and we emptied our house last time.) We had it at our house because we learned that getting all the donations on Friday night makes for a very late night and some very tired parents. Also, while we were thankful that our church let us use the gym for our sale last time, it also meant that we had to have everything out of there by Sunday. This time at the end of the sale we just boxed up a few things and slid it to the side of the garage. It made for much easier cleanup and happier people that evening.

We started collecting things about two months ago and there were lots of friends that helped us, some allowing us to go through things that didn’t sell at their garage sales and others that just brought us things. We had several furniture items, lots of clothes, a wonderful surprise of brand new Pampered Chef items, water to drink, and as always the random things that I just can’t resist to tryout. Even Hope got into making cookies to bring Papita home.

It was a late night of getting things moved around, arranging and collecting the last items, and baking the final batches of the 200+ cookies to be sold. Friday night quickly turned into Saturday morning and after a few hours of sleep we began to bring things out. Immediately, it began to sprinkle. What luck for us. The rain lasted most of the morning with on and off sprinkling reaching a climax around nine that caused us to pull everything in the garage with the help of a great friend. This was a huge disadvantage compared to the church gym. Everything was on top of everything and the traffic really died down. Anybody that did stop had to be careful where they stepped, not to mention nobody wanted ice cold water when it was 60 and raining. Luckily many of our larger items sold early and we already had the clothes inside.

At the end of the day it was sunny and bright but we still had lots of items left and piles of cookies. Thanks to social media we put out a call for the cookies $5/dozen. They were flying off the shelves and we sold nearly all of them. We had over $80 in cookie sales alone, most of it after the sale ended. Because of the rain we are going to have another sale just in the morning on the citywide date where we hope to raise the rest of our funds for our next step. We are so thankful for our friends and family that are helping to bring our son home. We are so very close to the end and we can’t believe how fast we got here. Thank you for being believers and supporters of us on this crazy adventure. Please continue to pray for us. We have been applying for several grants and will hear back in the next two months or so.
