May 20th, 2013...

On May 20th, 2013, Caleb and I were both home enjoying our new 19 day old baby and I was still recovering from my C-section. Caleb was permitted two days off work per week to help Hope and I transition. With the help of my mother we finally completed Hope’s world travel themed nursery. I remember being excited to take pictures to share with my friends and family.

Little did we know, that Caleb being home that particular day was a tremendous blessing. That afternoon, a horrific mile wide EF5 tornado struck the city of Moore. Our home unfortunately was in its path. There we were, new parents with a 19 day old baby with no place to call "home." We had to move seven times that summer. But many friends, family, coworkers, and complete strangers reached out to help us put our lives together. We have moved back into our home, but the construction is still not complete.

Still in shock from the tornado, we appeared on a CNN segment titled "Hope, Against the Odds." We spoke about how Hope's name was a reflection of her life and how God will get us through this trial just like the many before it. We also made a curious acronym for her.

Through this tragedy, our lives will never be the same. It has been emotionally draining, physically exhausting and financially challenging. We know that if we can make it through this nightmare, then we can do anything. God, family and friends have been with us every step of the way. We are very thankful for everything that they have done to help us rebuild our lives.
